1948-1949 Championship Baseball Team
1948-1949 Championship Baseball Team
County and District Champions -- Rison's first-rate baseball team made a clean sweep in this spring's baseball competition, winning both the county and Eighth district titles. They will go to Birmingham next month to compete in the state tournament. The winner there goes to the regional and then to the national. Rison defeated New Market for the county title and Guntersville for the district. Both were by one-sided scores, 12-0 and 9-1, respectively.

This was one of the first Little League teams in Huntsville. Little League was first introduced in Huntsville in the summer of 1950 and this was the Dallas Optimist team that year.

"The Rison team pictured above romped away with the championship in the Huntsville Babe Ruth League. They will enter the playoff this week favored to win. The team won seven, lost one in regular season play. Rison plays Lincoln in the first game Monday morning at 8:30. Big Spring plays Joe Bradley at 1:30."
